Air Seychelles has announced it is postponing the start of its services to Maldives and
Mumbai to December 1 after the grounding of the B767-200EXL aircraft caused by the
closure of XL Airways in the UK.
The first flight had been scheduled to operate from Seychelles to Mumbai via Maldives on
1st November 08. A special Diwali flight planned for October 26 to Mumbai has also been
cancelled.
With XL Airways going into administration and suspending all its engineering support to
other airlines leasing its aircraft, the Air Seychelles B767-200EXL, La Belle Creole – leased
from XL – cannot be used. It has been grounded and parked at Seychelles International
Airport.
Air Seychelles’ executive chairman, Captain David Savy, said: “We can recommence with
our original plans only when we have a full complement of an aircraft to operate these
two routes.”
